Prayer Journey —Voices

People speak to me and tell me who to be. They try to cloth me with something that covers who I am in you dear God. Who they say I should be does not quite fit right. Can I find comfort in who you made me to be dear God? You hand crafted me; made me in your image; made me for your purposes; placed me here at this moment in time. Yet I often do not conform to your ways, but rather the ways of others, the ways of the world. Help me dear God to be who you want me to be. Help me to be who you designed me to be. Help me to be who I truly am in you and not in what others say I should be. May your voice resonate within me and deflect the voices that tell me I am something other than who you designed me to be. Help me to find peace in who you made me to be.

For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. – Psalm 139:13-14 (NASB)

  1. “In you I find my worth, in you I find my identity.” This line from the Lauren Daigle song You Say hits home for me just as the words you have written here do.

It can be so tempting to subconsciously fall into the trap of finding fault in others, or believing there is some wrong that has been done to us, that we forget what really matters. That we are saved by Jesus, and peace is in available to us when we follow Him.

Thank you for sharing this. 🙏

  2. Amen. I have been asking the Lord to help me to focus on who HE says I am. Your prayer is beautiful and much needed. Thank you very much.

  3. Wow, do I ever relate to that prayer. I move back home to retire. Seems everyone brought out an old set of “Gary” clothes for me to wear. Clothes for roles I don’t play anymore (or play differently)., and they are many sizes off. Is there such a thing as a spiritual clothes rummage sale?
